This graphic is a screen shot from a flash animation created for me by and intern from the University of Michigan. She started with this blog article, which has a graphic that I created using power point.
The graphic shows how volunteers who are well-supported will stay with a non profit longer, learn more about the issues and do more to help the non profit be successful. Thus, if the business community sees the value of having employees involved in non-school tutor/mentor programs, both to current, and future employees, they should be more innovative in helping these programs have the operating dollars, facilities and technology that well-run non profits need to provide effective mentoring to volunteers, as well as youth.
This also shows how interns from college and high school can use their talents to tell the stories of non profits who do not have the money to have this type of talent on staff. The interns do not even need to be from the same city, or country, to do this work. They learn from the activity of creating the presentation, while the people who view this also learn.
You can see more animations like this here.
While we created these presentations to support our work in Chicago, they can be used by anyone to support their own work, in their own community. Just let us know how you are using them.
