Project TOTO

Reading the heading of this post you might be wondering what is "Project TOTO". Well I'm glad you asked; very glad.

"Project TOTO" (The Overseas Training Operation) is the brain child of ActionAid Australia and I'm particularly excited about this project. ActionAid Australia, is an anti-poverty agency, with operations in over 40 countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas.… Continue

Live Blog: Safe Climate Australia launch

A few weeks ago, completely out-of-the-blue I received an email from Safe Climate Australia. It’s not too unusual for me to receive emails from a range of different environment groups and non-government organisations with my involvement in the environment movement and the Greens. But what was unusual about this email was it contained an invitation; an invitation to the launch of Safe Climate Australia.

From their website:… Continue

Twitter for direct online action

Today, after much thought, I launched a trial of one way of using Twitter for direct political action. For the time being I’m calling it a Twitter action.

Note Well: This is not a scientific or academic analysis or trial or test. It represents merely my experience and thoughts.

I say one way, as there are probably other online activists also thinking about how to more effectively use applications like Twitter. Considering my existing knowledge and experience… Continue

The Lend4Health Journey: [beta]

beta

Today, I decided to remove the word "beta" from my website. An action that took approximately 3 seconds, but, my....! What a liberating and empowering milestone!

When I first put "beta" at the top of Lend4Health.org, I did so because I was nervous that somebody would see my site (really only a blog) and laugh.… Continue

The Lend4Health Journey: A New Partnership

This week, I got an email from Brian Woeller. Brian is the brother of Kurt Woeller - a doctor who practices the Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) protocol for treating (and potentially recovering) kids with autism. Brian tells me he found out about Lend4Health through a Google Alert on "autism… Continue

The Lend4Health Journey: Angels Among Us

On Thanksgiving Day 2008, I received the following tweet from @JosephDee on Twitter:

I had never "met" Joe before, nor had we ever "tweeted" to each other before. I checked out his Twitter profile and saw words like "manager," "online… Continue

The Lend4Health Journey: Reflecting on #TweetsGiving

If you are not on Twitter, you should be. Not just because it's a great way to connect with and learn from like-minded folks, but also because it is a new frontier for social actions. A friend of mine, @Stacey Monk, (whom I've only "met" on Twitter) recently led a brilliant campaign for her non-profit, Epic Change. Called… Continue
