About me:
I am currently researching leadership and collaborative learning (among lots of other buzzwords) for my PhD dissertation. I just returned for a year of studying these issues in Jordan and am preparing to return over the summer to complete the study. I am also learning about alternative research methods and love to talk about them!

I have a background in participatory community-based planning, development, and evaluation emanating from my Peace Corps Service in Morocco in the late 90s. I am intrigued by the ideas of P2P philanthropy and wish to help non-expert donors learn how to rate P2P projects.

Lexi, thanks for all of your help over the past weeks as the Platform Liaison role has come into focus, and for pointing out the importance of keeping my communications lingo--free. Let me know when I could be improving in that area. These posts are all editable and I'll gladly make revisions as needed to bring as many kinds of people as possible into the conversation.

Peace Corps and Social Actions

Peace Corps is an incredible organization devoted to serving people in developing nations and inspiring Americans to think about the world outside our borders. So why aren't there more projects involving Peace Corps volunteers in our database?

A quick search found just one group of former Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) developing a project in Sierra Leone (http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=89097) and the tag didn't pull up anything in the SA members search in sp… Continue

My attempt to spread the word.

I earlier posted a video and post about The Girl Effect. I found out about it through socialactions.com, an incredible organization which makes online philanpthropy easy. The Girl Effect is supported by one of a multitude of incredible online philanthropy sites. This one is called globalgiving.com. At sites like this, you can chose specific projects covering a huge range of issues. Many of the projects support one specific individual or one small community–guaranteeing that your dollars go to th… Continue
