About me:
A little background

I used to be exclusively involved with for-profit, small business development (with lots of volunteering for nonprofits on the side), but then took a year to backpack through about 20 countries... Came back with a new professional commitment to non-profit international development work... Earned a master’s in international development, researching the influence that chaos and quantum theories could have on the way we go about making the world a better place... Led to a strong interest in the way the Internet is facilitating decentralized development and philanthropic initiatives... Led to a full-time commitment to building Social Actions (thank you, Peter Deitz, for creating that opportunity!)... Which we then handed off to GuideStar! I'm currently doing a few facilitation gigs here and there, and wondering what I'd like to be building next...

I loved being a part of building Social Actions. Here's one of the quickest explanations of what it is, in a 2-min. video taken by Hatef Yamini when Peter Deitz and I were practicing for the 2008 N2Y3 competition (all Peter's idea, the project and the pitch!).

And a beautiful video created by John Haydon:

F. David Peat's Gentle Action: Bringing Creative Change to a Turbulent World (cross-disciplinary examples of how to take action in a way that's most likely to benefit as intended)

Bill Somerville's Grassroots Philanthropy: Field Notes of a Maverick Grantmaker (reframing the role that foundations can play in supporting individuals)

David Ellerman's Helping People Help Themselves: From the World Bank to an Alternative Philosophy of Development Assistance (Evolving Values for a Capitalist World) (how to deliver autonomy-creating, rather than dependency-creating, assistance)

Fritjof Capra's Uncommon Wisdom (strongly influenced my passion for research and conversations)

Tobin Hart's From Information to Transformation: Education for the Evolution of Consciousness (information - knowledge - intelligence - understanding - wisdom)

Hi Christine, You're #2 (excluding me). Welcome to Social Actions. I wanted to run the idea of creating this Ning by you before launching it, but one thing led to another. And there it was, ready to go. What do you think?

Hi Christine! I'll try to do a better job of detailed response to what I read about on the blog and website. And I'll point out when I'm lost! :) So excited by what you're all doing though!
